As one of the UK’s foremost providers of commercial fire, security and communication systems, PEL Services Ltd. has been awarded the fire detection and emergency lighting maintenance contract for a number of NHS Trusts in Hertfordshire.
As part of a joint venture, East & North Hertfordshire and West Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS Trusts combined to outsource the maintenance of their fire alarms, smoke damper control equipment and emergency lighting. A formal tender process was put into place using OJEU protocol, a process which rigorously vets each tenderer based on the companies’ management of finance, qualifications, quality control, environment, sustainability and health and safety. PEL scored the highest in the evaluation process with high scores in all these categories. The company was subsequently awarded the contract for planned and reactive maintenance of these systems across all five hospitals covered by the Trusts.
Commenting on the awarding of the contract, Robert Jones, Property Services Manager with East & North Hertfordshire NHS Trust said: “PEL’s service has been extremely good – we are very pleased with their service delivery and flexible manner in which they manage the contract so far. Within the hospital environment it isn’t always easy to get in and complete a job; PEL know this only too well and are flexible in terms of coming back to complete their work without necessarily charging the Trust anything extra for access. They have fitted in with the NHS Trust extremely well and have quickly reacted to the way we do things, which can be quite different to the private sector.”
Following on from this, PEL Services was recommended to Hertfordshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, which provides health and social care for both people with mental ill health and those with a learning disability. PEL Services won the tender for a three year planned and reactive maintenance contract for the fire alarms, emergency lighting and extinguishers. Unusually, the contract is for weekly testing of the fire alarms in residential care sites with standard monthly emergency lighting testing.
