Get free business advice at UK Construction Week
Keen to help construction SMEs grow their business, organisers of UK Construction Week have set up a free Business Advice Centre and Skills Analysis gamification zone as part of this year’s show being held at the NEC in Birmingham on 18 – 20 October.
At the Business Advice Centre on stand B4/2203 business owners can seek free professional advice on a wide variety of operational and administrative topics. By partnering with leading experts in their field, the centre is the perfect place to get practical advice on how to setup and maintain apprenticeships, improve customer satisfaction, achieve BREEAM certification, manage efficient payroll systems and abide by relevant construction and tax law.
The companies offering free services at the centre include Altion Law, the British Institute of Facilities Management (BIFM), the Building Research Establishment (BRE), EEBS, Geason Training, the Institute of Environment Management and Assessment (IEMA), Parkwood, the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and TLF Research. Nathan Garnett, Event Director at UK Construction Week, commented: “SMEs are the backbone of the UK construction industry and, while trade shows are a great way to network and generate new business, we wanted to do more to support construction business owners. Often they have no problem with on-the-job knowhow, it’s the background business skills that can sometimes be a stumbling block. The Business Advice Centre has been setup for exactly this purpose and we hope that many of our visitors take advantage of the free 20-minute appointments on offer.”
In addition to the Business Advice Centre, UK Construction Week has partnered with Skills4Stem to help visitors gain a greater understanding of their leadership skills. The Gamification Zone at stand B4/270 will host the interactive Skills4Leadership game, which takes approximately 45 minutes and will give employers and employees an objective insight into each team member’s leadership skills, competencies and behaviours. Normally costing £50 plus VAT per user, the game will be free for everyone who visits. However spaces will be allocated on a first come first served basis so the organisers recommend booking a timeslot in advance.
