Go Construct attracts 50,000 hits in its first three months online

The Go Construct campaign has seen over 50,000 people logging on to its website and over 2000 downloads of its educational and other campaign resources in the first three months since its launch.

The industry led Go Construct campaign went live launched on 7 September with the aim of encouraging more people from a range of backgrounds to consider a career in construction. It is the first such campaign to successfully pull together the whole construction industry to speak with one voice in a collective effort to fill the more than 220,000 new construction roles to be created over the next five years.  Go Construct already has over 4,200 Twitter and nearly 500 Facebook followers.

There has been strong demand for the campaign’s free educational and other resources such as lesson plans and campaign posters that available via the website. Over 600 individuals and organisations have registered on the site. Between them they have downloaded 1100 copies of the Educational support toolkit and nearly 1000 of the infographics, posters and banner ads available on the site.

The site was recently nominated in the ‘best user experience’ category at the prestigious UK User Experience awards.

With the campaign reaching more than 50,000 people, it is already on course to smash its targets. It has achieved nearly half the hits predicted for the whole year in its first quarter. Go Construct is funded by the CITB levy and was developed in partnership with over 700 partners including construction employers, such as the Home Builders Federation and industry stakeholders including FE colleges and Job Centre Plus.

As well as coverage across TV news, press and on nearly 100 radio stations, campaign adverts have appeared on buses, billboards and in magazines across the country. Two Buzzfeed articles were also created to promote the campaign, which between them have been viewed nearly 40,000 times.

Sarah Fenton, Strategic Partnerships Director at CITB, said: “Go Construct has only been in existence for three months, so to have so many people checking out the website and downloading and using the campaign’s resources is a real vote of confidence.

“Its success is a testament to the hard work and dedication of many people. Not only the team within CITB but hundreds of people, federations and organisations from across the industry who helped us to design and shape it. I want to thank all of them for their on-going championing of the project.

“The best news is that we are only at the start of a three year project with lots more exciting developments to come that will make the site even bigger and better.”

CITB is continuing to co-design the campaign with industry federations, employers and stakeholders to expand the Go Construct offer. Over the next 12 months the site will see further features developed and launched. In early 2016 a ’experience match service’ tool will be added. This will match those offering construction experiences such as site tours, work experience or construction ambassador presentations with individuals, schools and organisations which request them.
